Sam Marion, MSW, LCSW

Hi! I’m Sam Marion, a multiply-neurodivergent Licensed Clinical Social Worker dedicated to supporting neurodivergent individuals and families through an affirming lens. I have lived experience of ADHD, autism, PDA, a reading disability, and a facial tic, and my work combines this lived experience with the classic social work approach of seeing an individual as part of increasingly larger systems.

For years, my career was as a trauma therapist, and my work in that space was heavily focused on supporting nervous system regulation, and so many of those skills transferred seamlessly into my work supporting neurodivergent clients. I help people understand the concept of neurodiversity and how it may fit within their family. When people come to me with neurodivergent identities, diagnoses, or suspicions of them, we spend time understanding specifics of them from a neurodivergent-affirming perspective. I work collaboratively with clients to support their unique nervous system(s) by talking through possible sources of emotional dysregulation. As we are more able to support a calmer, more regulated nervous system and body, we then work to help each family member be able to live as their most authentic self.

When I’m not engaged directly with clients, I enjoy creating content and resources to continue sharing a neurodivergent-affirming message. You can find me pretty active on Instagram, my first book is available on Amazon, and I will speak in front of any audience that will listen to my message (over 40 professional conference presentations plus some that I’ve hosted on my own). I love talking about these topics, and most people see my passion and energy come through when they meet me.

When I’m not doing anything work related, I love finding a new adventure to go on with my family. I love the mountains and hiking new trails, but I also love the water and can watch boats pass by for hours. Oh, and I love baked goods, so I guess my ideal day is spent eating pastries while driving a boat on a mountain lake.
